UK-China Exploration of the Future Cultivation of Skilled Talents

China’s skills system continues to develop at a rapid pace and the opportunities to support further positive change are significant. The UK is recognised as a key partner well placed to support the development and implementation of China’s skills approaches through high-quality skills collaboration and long-term partnerships.

Last month, a five-day UK delegation visited China from 25th October to 31st October 2023. The delegation was led by UK Government representatives from the Department for Business & Trade (DBT), accompanied by colleagues from the British Embassy in Beijing and Shanghai. The discussions revolved around three main thematic areas: Green, Digital and Future Facing Technologies; Business and Professional Services; Green Transport and Sustainable Energy; and Advanced Manufacturing, along with various related sectors and sub-sectors.

This visit marked a continuation of previous engagements, such as the 2017 skills trade mission, the 2019 Chartered Bodies trade mission, as well as other in-country and online skills workshops, and ongoing partnership activities. The primary focus of this trade mission was to engage in dialogues and exchanges with important stakeholders in two major cities: Beijing and Changzhou.

During the visit, roundtable discussions and workshops were conducted with Chinese Government ministries, including the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Human Resources & Social Security, as well as TVET colleges, key stakeholders, and agencies. Represented by our very own, Daniel, Marketing Director of TQUK East & Southeast Asia, we had the privilege to introduce TQUK’s latest development of qualifications in AI and Engineering in front of hundreds of important TVET stakeholders from all over China.

In the Beijing segment of the visit, TQUK had the pleasure of reaching a mutual agreement with multiple TVET colleges. During this productive engagement, Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) were signed by all parties involved. These significant agreements were witnessed by representatives from both the Chinese and UK governments, further solidifying the commitment and partnership between the two nations. We look forward to these agreements pave the way for future collaborations between the British and Chinese counterparts in vocational training. Together, we aspire to achieve an even more ideal integration, fortifying the Sino-British relationship and propelling both nations towards a prosperous future.
