In addition to our knowledgeable team, we also consult with a number of subject experts to serve in an advisory capacity within a specific sector.

 


Ann Gravells – Subject Expert – Education and TrainingAnn_Gravells_-_photo_cropped

Ann is passionate about helping new entrants to the further education and skills sector. She specialises in teaching, training, assessment and quality assurance, and has written several text books to support these subjects. She is a director of her own company Ann Gravells Ltd, an educational consultancy based in East Yorkshire, and has worked in the UK and abroad.

Ann is currently a consultant to The University of Cambridge’s Institute of Continuing Education, and sits on the Ofqual Vocational Advisory Group. She writes a monthly article for FE News and is very pleased to be one of TQUK’s subject experts.

Ann holds a Masters in Educational Management, a PGCE, a Degree in Education, and a Medal of Excellence for teaching. She is a Fellow of the Society for Education and Training, and holds QTLS status. You can follow her on social media or contact her via her website www.anngravells.com


Ray Corry – Subject Expert – Health and Social CareRay_Corry

Ray has 23 years experience in the Health and Social care field, with over a decade of that working with national bodies such as BIS, Skills for Care/Health, Ofqual, the SFA and awarding organisations. Ray specialises in the research, development and delivery of Health and Social Care legislation, policy and curriculum and sits on the Skills for Care National Employers Forum and Apprenticeship Steering Group.

Ray is the Head of Learning and Development at Creative Support: a provider of person centred social care services. Ray also heads up the Creative Academy, offering a comprehensive range of qualifications and training to individuals working for Creative Support and in the wider world of Health and Social Care.

Ray holds a BSc(Hons) in Clinical Science and a post graduate degree in Leadership and Management, as well as his IV, EV and assessor qualifications. He is a member of the Chartered Management Institute and in his final year of his Executive Master degree in Business Administration.


 

Adele Williams – Subject Expert – Food SafetyAdele

Adele holds a BSc and MSc in Applied Biological Sciences and has worked as a lecturer in the Food Technology Department of an agricultural college delivering vocational qualifications up to HND level, and full cost courses to local food sector employers.

Adele has also acted as  Lecturer in biology in Further and Higher Education colleges delivering a wide range of subjects including food microbiology.

In addition, Adele has worked in quality assurance for an international food manufacturer and acted as an External quality assurance consultant for several years for food supply chain qualifications

Adele has been heavily involved in the development of TQUK’s food safety qualifications and continues to engage with relevant forums and sector skills councils to ensure they remain up to date and fit for purpose.


 

Lisa Morris – Subject Expert – Assessing, Learning and Development, Business AdministrationLisa_SE_page

Lisa has been working in education and training for over thirteen years and is a qualified teacher,assessor, IQA and EQA. She is also a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Educational Assessors (CIEA). Having taught a range of learners from school aged children to adults, in subjects such as Education, Business and Management and Quality Assurance. Lisa is vastly experienced in delivering qualification and bespoke training.

She has taught in a range of schools and colleges and worked for a number of national training providers, managing their quality teams in preparation for Ofsted inspections, having undertaken Ofsted inspector training herself. Lisa has also worked for an international awarding organisation, managing quality and EQA activities. Lisa is also a Director of her own training and consultancy organisation – Educating UK Ltd.

Lisa thoroughly enjoys working with learners to develop their knowledge, skills and competencies and with training organisations to help improve their quality standards and processes.


 

Andrew Walker – Subject Expert – Health and Safety, Risk ManagementAWALK

Andrew’s years of experience in risk management and health and safety delivery are complimented by a first class degree in Health and Safety Management.  Andrew has worked with some of the largest employers in the UK on Health and Safety matters and developed an in depth understanding of the Health and Safety Executive requirements and practical application of Health and Safety strategy.

Andrew has also guest lectured on Health and Safety, Risk Management and Business Continuity, and continues to take an active role in Awarding Body Health and Safety forums. He is an experienced trainer and assessor and holds his external verification qualification.

Andrew has been actively involved in the development process of TQUK’s Safety and Compliance suite of qualifications and continues to assist with the approval of centres to offer these qualifications, the design of assessments and the mapping of centre devised assessments to learning outcomes, the external verification of learner’s work and any technical queries about qualification content.


 

Sue Diamond – Subject Expert – Hair and Beautysuediamond

Sue combines a background in hair, beauty and sports therapy practice with 25 years experience in the education sector which has seen her act as consultant, senior standards verifier, qualification writer, trainer, assessor, chief examiner and external verifier for a number of awarding organisations. She holds a range of both competence and knowledge based hair and beauty qualifications across a range of levels, in addition to a masters degree in Leadership and Management and a Cert.Ed from Manchester University.

Sue supports us with the review of the qualifications in our Hair and Beauty sector, including those qualifications which sit on the HABIA apprenticeship framework, and with any technical queries and questions we might receive from centres. We always make sure our hair is neat when she comes to the office!


 

Afruj Choudhury – Subject Expert – Professional Cookeryafruj

CEO and Chef Director Afruj Chowdhury is a qualified hospitality and catering trainer, he began his career as a bank clerk and worked part time in many acclaimed fine dining restaurants throughout the North. Afruj also held the positions of School’s liaison officer and support teacher before joining The British Curry Industry’s leading training provider CSDA in 2005.

Afruj was appointed Head of Qualifications and Professional Cookery at CSDA, where he successfully lead and managed large teams of NVQ Assessors to deliver the Government’s flagship work based training programme (TraintoGain) to the Hospitality workers up and down the Country.

Afruj lead teams of Assessors where they assessed and developed the skills and techniques of Innumerable chefs throughout the Country. As a renowned regional celebrity chef Afruj is a host on TV cookery shows, regularly appears in curry industry magazines and local papers and is the chief ambassador for British Curry Chef Council (BCCC). Afruj’s culinary experience, his wide and sound knowledge of food, his enviable professional career and his extensive links within the industry means he is ideally placed to deliver enjoyable, high quality and informative courses to all at Safeguard Fusion Training Academy whilst establishing it as a brand within the British Hospitality Industry.

With TQUK, Afruj proposed and developed the first curry chef focussed diploma course with his team to inspire grassroots home grown talent for an adventurous culinary career with industry specific qualification and progression route for those aspiring chefs with passion for cookery for an exciting career.


 

Karl Drane – Subject Expert – Construction & the Built Environment

Karl is passionate about vocational learning and inspiring a lifelong learning ethic. He specialises in Construction, Management and Quality.

Karl is heavily involved in the education landscape with many years experience and roles as Training Manager of a training provider CTC Training & Assessment Ltd, consultant for several Awarding Organisations and an Ofqual Expert Advisor.

Karl is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and the Chartered Quality Professional for the Chartered Quality Institute (CQI).


 

Nick Ayling – Subject Expert – First Aid Trainingnick

Nick is very passionate about the delivery, content and standard of First Aid Training. He specialises in teaching, training, assessment and Internal and External Quality assurance. Nick is a director of his own company NDA First Aid Training Ltd based in Buckinghamshire, a Training Company that operates nationwide covering First Aid training and various other subjects such as Health and Safety and Defibrillation

He learnt First Aid at the age of 16 when he was a Lifeguard in the Leisure Industry attending 2 Hours minimum of training every month. He then qualified as an Instructor in 2004 and has been delivering the training ever since to a variety of clients in numerous sectors.

Nick appreciates the Industry is ever changing and looks forward to communicating this and supporting where necessary.


 

Jennifer Marshall – Subject Expert – ChildcareJMarshall

Jennifer has sixteen years experience in the Early Years/Childcare field and twelve years experience in the education sector in a variety roles including: teaching, quality assurance, leadership and management. Jennifer holds a BSc, PGCE, Certificate in Executive Coaching and Leadership Mentoring, and is an IV and EQA.

Jennifer is the Head of Learning Services at Newham Training and Education Centre (NEWTEC), a specialist organisation offering exceptional vocational training opportunities and high quality registered day care nursery facilities in Stratford and London.  Jennifer also works for an awarding organisation as an EQA.

Jennifer is passionate about ensuring teachers and assessors deliver outstanding vocational training services to meet the needs of learners, employers and the community.


 

Scottie Callaghan – Subject Expert in Hospitality & Catering – Barista SkillsScottie pic

Scottie gained worldwide recognition as a respected barista through his participation in many barista competitions, winning the 2006 World Latte Art Championship, 3rd place in the 2010 World barista Championship and two times Australian Barista Champion. Working in the coffee industry over 20 years, Scottie has built relationships with coffee farmers, roasters, baristas, coffee retail businesses, espresso machine manufacturers and many associated businesses worldwide. Scottie has started his own coffee brands in Australia and Hong Kong, co-owns cafés and coffee trading company in Hong Kong, and travels regularly around the world to international conferences, events, and coffee farms. He was invited by Australia’s “Bean Scene” magazine to write a regular column called “Industry Insight” from 2011 to 2013. He has also written and published his own book “Café Republic of Australia” in 2008. Today he lives in HK and brings all his passion and experience together at Redback Specialty Coffee as green coffee buyer and master roaster. He was also the host and organizer of Mixed Barista Arts competition at HOFEX 2017.

Sue George – Subject Expert – Compliance Consultant

Sue has worked in the field of education and in the delivery, assessment and quality assurance of vocational qualifications for over 18 years. She began her career in higher education at Coventry University where her focus was to engage with employers to enhance the national employment opportunities of students. She moved to the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) in 2008 to lead the work of its Investigations team and continued this work when QCA’s regulatory functions transferred to Ofqual.

Following a short secondment to the Skills Funding Agency to lead an area of specialist funding policy, she returned to Ofqual. This time to help shape Ofqual’s approach to recognition by ensuring that regulated status was only awarded to organisations that had the capacity, capability, expertise and resource to award regulated qualifications.

In 2014, she moved to the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) to take responsibility for ensuring its compliance with all regulatory requirements that related to the development, delivery and award of qualifications in the UK and internationally.

Moving to FutureQuals in April 2016, her role as Chief Operating Officer and Responsible Officer was primarily to direct and oversee the organisations operational policies, ensure its compliance and to drive the operational and strategic direction of the organisation.
